Joan P. Saul, 74, helped found civic organization
By Times staff writer TAMPA -- Joan Perlman Saul, considered one of the founders of the Davis Islands Civic Association, died on Saturday (March 22, 2003) at LifePath Hospice. She was 74. A lifelong resident of Davis Islands, Mrs. Saul was a member of the Temple Schaarai Zedek and a homemaker who spent time volunteering as a docent at the Tampa Museum of Art and with the Women's Division of the Tampa Jewish Federation. Her husband of 50 years, Bill, died in March 2000. "I had just taken her to his grave to visit him," said Mrs. Saul's daughter, Tampa City Council member Linda Saul-Sena. "I just can't believe that 13 days later, I'm out there picking out a grave for her." Survivors include Saul-Sena; daughter Julie Saul of New York City, N.Y.; and granddaughters Aliza and Gabrielle. Rabbi Richard Birnholz will officiate at the funeral at 11 a.m. today at Temple Schaarai Zedek at 3303 W Swann Ave., in Tampa. Burial will follow in Myrtle Hill Memorial Park.
