Realtors support improving water and sewer

© St. Petersburg Times
published March 25, 2003

Editor: At the recent goal setting session, the Citrus County Board of County Commissioners produced a set of goals that, if adopted, will be a very positive direction for Citrus County.

The Realtors Association of Citrus County emphatically supports the idea of improving and adding to the county's water and sewage infrastructure. The elimination of septic tanks in environmentally sensitive areas will prevent pollution and protect our water resources.

The Realtors Association of Citrus County believes that supporting this goal is in the best interest of all citizens of Citrus County and encourages all elected officials to make every effort possible to support improving and adding to the county's water and sewage infrastructure.
-- John Barnes, president, Realtors Association of Citrus County Inc.

Where was the U.S. flag in the courthouse?

Editor: Being a new resident to Florida, I was summoned to appear for jury service. Wanting to do my duty, I showed up at the new Inverness Courthouse. After a short time, I was excused from serving.

There was something that bothered me and I would like to speak out.

Where was the flag?

Certainly, there is none in the jury room. We had to face the back wall of the room to say the Pledge of Allegiance. Seems the flag is outside on a pole, so looking in that direction was the way to go.

Upon leaving, I also noticed that there is no flag in the lobby. A nice display of the Florida flag and the U.S. flag would be a nice welcome to everyone who enters the courthouse.

Thank you for letting me speak out and I hope that some changes are made real soon. God bless America.

Charles 'Pat' Patterson will be greatly missed

Editor: Today my heart is at half staff. I have lost someone I was privileged to call friend. On Feb. 4 my neighbor and good friend Charles "Pat" Patterson passed away after a long hard fight against cancer. I moved my family from Illinois to Citrus County in 1997 and I was fortunate enough to move next door to Pat and his wife, Virginia. From the first days they have shown me what a good neighbor is. It is hard enough moving from your home of 62 years to a new area, especially if you have a mentally challenged daughter. Pat and Virginia, having never been around someone like our Kelly, soon proved that they loved her like we did.

Having been involved both in Lions International and Special Olympics, it was not too long before I approached Pat about some help in our Special Olympics cause. He picked up the challenge and through the Homosassa Lions got the approval for a much needed donation.

Pat was a tireless hard worker for the Homosassa Lions. When you go to a local restaurant or business, look for the Lions Mint Container. This was Pat's doing. Pat was an accomplished wood carver. We are fortunate to have some of Pat's work at our home.

Will we miss him? You bet. Not a day goes by that I look next door thinking I will see Pat. My heart is at half staff and Pat will never be forgotten.

Rest in peace, my friend.
-- Jim, Kathy and Kelly Miller, Homosassa
