NEW PORT RICHEY -- The Pasco-Hernando Community College baseball team snapped a five-game losing skid with Friday's 7-2 win over St. Petersburg College.
The Conquistadors, who lost the first two games (13-0 and 12-2) of a three-game set with St. Petersburg, were outscored 44-12 in that stretch before Friday's win.
PHCC (13-15, 3-5 in the Suncoast Conference) hosted Hillsborough CC late Monday with those teams meeting again at 3p.m. Wednesday at the New Port Richey campus.
Shawn Barrett (2-2), who was scheduled to start Monday, was named honorable mention in weekly awards handed out by the Florida Community College Activities Association on Wednesday.
Barrett was recognized for the two-hitter he pitched March 12 against Polk CC. The left-hander struck out nine and did not walk a batter in a 1-0 win.
Chris Langlois (3-2), a right-hander from River Ridge, is scheduled to start Wednesday for PHCC.
In Friday's win, left-hander Ryan Williams (1-0) scattered four hits and allowed one run in seven innings.
Ronnie Lowe (Ridgewood) pitched two innings of hitless relief for his first save.
Orlando Rosales (Pasco) and Victor Roldan paced the offense with three hits and two RBIs apiece. Rosales hit two triples.
Lee Cruz (Pasco), PHCC's leading hitter at .398, singled to break up a no-hitter by St. Petersburg pitcher Michel Simard on March17 in a 13-0 loss.
WINNING WEEK: Saint Leo's baseball team started last week with two wins over Massachusetts-Lowell and split a doubleheader with Sunshine State Conference foe Rollins, all at home.
The Lions (12-17, 2-3 in the conference) defeated UMass-Lowell, the nation's sixth-ranked Division II team, 18-5 Tuesday and 16-6 Thursday. Saint Leo won Saturday's first game against Rollins, 8-6, before losing the nightcap 2-1.
Sunday's third meeting at Saint Leo was rained out.
Eric Paone (4-3), the Lions' winningest pitcher, beat Rollins. Starter Cameron O'Connell (1-1) and reliever Mark Sbraccia (1-0) won against UMass-Lowell.
Jason Lopez, Joe DiLeo and Jim Hanks each had two RBIs to help Saint Leo rally from a five-run deficit to beat Rollins on Saturday.
Jeff Germano had Saint Leo's lone RBI in the nightcap.
Derrick McNeil (Land O'Lakes), Bryan Melko (Springstead) and Germano each drove in three runs in the first win over UMass-Lowell. Mike Stepp (Zephyrhills), who leads the team with six homers, hit a two-run homer.
In Thursday's contest, Julian Davis had four hits and four RBIs, Don Hampton hit a two-run homer, and Hanks and Adriel Fiallo each had two RBIs.
