The State Theatre departs from its usual music Saturday, featuring Stephen Lynch, a comic with a guitar. He sings twisted, dark ballads about subjects that include dead girlfriends, gynecology and gerbils.

Lynch has performed on the college circuit, on Comedy Central and on the Opie and Anthony Show on radio. His second CD, Superhero, was released late last year.

Lynch appears at 8 p.m. Saturday. The State is at 687 Central Ave., St. Petersburg. Tickets are $15.
