Authorities had made no arrests in the case as of Thursday evening.

James E. Moore told Citrus County Sheriff's deputies that he attended a party in the Inverness Highlands area with friends after a local bar closed.

When Moore arrived at the party, a man made a disparaging remark to him, according to sheriff's spokeswoman Gail Tierney. Later, he said, another person struck his face.

That person and Moore began to fight. Then Moore started to fight with the man who made a remark to him earlier, Tierney said. During that fight, Moore felt something sharp poking him.

A deputy interviewed Moore shortly after 4 a.m. Thursday at the hospital. The deputy saw Moore had three puncture wounds on his upper body under his left arm, two similar wounds on his back just below his left shoulder blade and a small laceration on his left upper arm, Tierney said.

Tierney said one of the puncture wounds had penetrated two ribs and punctured Moore's left lung.

The case has been assigned to a detective.

-- Authorities found a 6-year-old boy home alone Wednesday, prompting them to arrest the child's mother, who had been at work.

Susan Anger, 30, 6629 W Cardinal St., Homosassa, was charged with child neglect and resisting or obstructing an officer without violence. She was released from the Citrus County jail Thursday morning on her own recognizance.

Sheriff's deputies went to the home while investigating a go-cart theft, an arrest report showed. When they knocked on the door, the boy answered. He told deputies his older brother was there earlier, but left to go to a friend's house about a mile away.

The boy said his mother left for work at 6 a.m. and would return at 4 p.m.

Authorities requested that Anger return home. Anger told an operator the child was supposed to be staying with a neighbor.

While being questioned, Anger would not cooperate and shouted obscenities, the report showed.

Inside the residence, deputies found beds unmade, clothes on the floor, dishes in the sink, dirty pots and pans and silverware on a dirty floor, the report said. In a back shed, where Anger's oldest son, age 16, supposedly lived, there was a bed and shelves for clothes and light.

The children were turned over to their grandfather.

-- Another mother was arrested Wednesday after her former husband accused her of buying beer for their 17-year-old son and his friend.

Brenda S. Fredrikson, 1031 S Telephone Point Road, Inverness, faced two counts of contributing to the delinquency or dependency of a child. According to state law, it is against the law to commit any act that leads to a child becoming delinquent, dependent or in need of services.

Fredrikson was released from the Citrus County jail early Thursday morning after posting $1,000 bail.

An arrest report showed that Fredrikson's former husband contacted the Sheriff's Office on Wednesday and reported that Fredrikson had been buying alcohol for his children and others. He told officials his 17-year-old son and his friend, also 17, were on their way to Fredrikson's house to pick her up and drive her to the Hess gas station at State Road 44 and Gospel Island Road so she could buy them beer.

The ex-husband had tape recorded a telephone conversation that revealed the arrangement, the report showed.

Later, the former husband met a deputy in a parking lot and produced a 20-pack of Budweiser with six bottles missing. The 17-year-old son, who also was in the parking lot, told officials that after dropping Fredrikson off, she took the six bottles of beer.

A deputy reviewed a videotape at the gas station and saw Fredrikson buying beer at the counter, the report showed.

At first, Fredrikson denied buying alcohol for her son, then later she said she did, but only took two beers, the report said.
