A bit of Broadway
By JOY DAVIS-PLATT, Times Staff Writer
SPRING HILL -- Hernando County will get a taste of the Great White Way this weekend when the Community Performing Arts Guild presents Lullaby of Broadway. The show features a group of singers and pianists celebrating Broadway's golden age, said director Rosalie Maresca. Music will include highlights from The King and I, The Sound of Music and Fiddler on the Roof. "I know the area very well and I know what people like to hear," said Maresca, who is director of the Florida Lyric Opera. "The shows I do are familiar and nothing that is beyond them. It's something they will enjoy." Among the show's featured performers is Mary Anne Edwards, whose most recent engagement at the Brookridge Community Center in Brooksville, has performed all over Florida at country clubs, hotels and retirement centers. She has sung with WTVT-13 news anchor John Wilson and his wife, Mary Kay Wilson, and Lothar Berguest and the 42nd Street Band. Also performing will be Edwards' two daughters, Elizabeth and Diane Boone. "We have a very talented group of people for this show," said Maresca, who spends a great deal of her time promoting area talent with her nonprofit group. "This is not just a social event, but a chance for these performers to get a chance for exposure. Other performers featured are Donna Delaine, Emily Daugherty, David Powers, Kevin Clifford, Todd Donovan and piano accompanist Constantine Grame. Maresca's grandchildren, Thomas and Karena Massey will sing as well. The Community Performing Arts Guild will present Lullaby of Broadway at 3 and 7 p.m. Saturday at Mariner United Methodist Church, 7079 Mariner Blvd., Spring Hill. Tickets are limited.
