ST. PETERSBURG -- Veteran administrator Tracy Spikes is the new director of the St. Petersburg Museum of History, which had been without a boss for more than six months.
Spikes, 54, replaces Mathias Bergendahl, who left in September to join Merrill Lynch as a financial adviser.
The new director has a lengthy museum resume, including stints with the Pensacola Museum of Art and the Swan House mansion at the Atlanta History Center.
He also was museum manager for the city of St. Augustine and administrator for the Historic St. Augustine Preservation Board.
Spikes, who lives in Clearwater with his wife, Carol McDuff, began work here Monday. One of his first jobs will be to oversee an expansion project at the museum, 335 Second Ave. NE.
