I Live Here

For busy retirees, Phyllis and John Sukalec, an enjoyable life in Kings Point just keeps getting sunnier.

When our retirement came, my husband, John, and I searched numerous areas throughout the United States and found nothing that compared to Sun City Center.

I had visited California and became convinced it was PARADISE. I planned to return and retire someday, but time has a way of changing things, not only for the better. Sun City Center was the place for us.

We had our dream home built in the Caloosa section. On completion we found the house still needed 10 corrections. We waited a year and nothing was done. It made us wonder if we had made the mistake of our life.

Fortunately for us and the community, Al Hoffman purchased Sun City Center. Within a week of notifying him of our problem, the corrections were made. Our home became the lovely home we planned it to be.

As the years passed there were many more improvements, additions and beautification that made us proud to be residents of Sun City Center. There's something here for everyone - golf, tennis, five swimming pools, two lovely clubhouses, a variety of dance classes, ceramics, computer classes, art, photography and much more.

John got into his exercise program, plus riding his bike and daily walks. Being an avid reader, he loved spending time in the libraries, which gave me the freedom to get involved in activities.

Being a professional dancer in my youth, I joined the tap, jazz and the Hawaiian classes. I was asked by the president of the Pelican Players to write and direct the Follies. I wrote The Hollywood Celebrities on Parade and The International Festive Revue. The president of the Sun City Community Association also wanted a show, so I wrote A Tribute to Television Celebrities and The Mardi Gras Revue for the Sun City Women's Club. The four shows were successful and a number of high school students benefited from the proceeds.

After 10 years of the hassle of maintaining our swimming pool, landscaping and outside painting of our home, we felt it was time to move to a condo in Kings Point.

I gave up the classes on the Sun City Center side and was asked to be the Hawaiian (dance) teacher in Kings Point. I taught for a number of years.

We are in our sixth year in Kings Point and it has made us as free as two birds. Sixteen years have passed so swiftly with much fulfillment.

My voluntary jobs have come to an end. It's strictly fun and travel for the rest of time to complete the joy of where we live.
