THRIFT STORE OPENS: Goodkids Village Inc., a nonprofit organization that helps abused and unwanted children, has opened a thrift store at 1450 Skipper Road. Donated merchandise is welcome. Hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Mondays through Saturdays. Call 631-0031.

New Tampa

BARE WOOD STORE OPENS: Bare Wood Outlet has carved out a place at 8904 Regents Park Drive, where it carries a variety of unfinished wood furniture. Hours are 10 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays, 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays and noon to 5 p.m. Sundays. Call 907-2031.

NEW HOTEL OPENS: New Tampa's second hotel has officially opened its doors. The Holiday Inn Express Hotel & Suites is in operation in Highwoods Preserve. Construction on the 100-room hotel began last June. The hotel says it experienced a sellout on its first weekend of business, which coincided with NCAA basketball tournament games at the St. Pete Times Forum. The hotel includes a fitness center, a business center and heated swimming pool.
