Video Game Reviews

Drome Racers

System: PlayStation 2

Company: Lego

Price: $19.99

Rating: E

Grade: D-

Drome Racers reminds me of a Star Wars racing game gone bad. You race Lego cars in several modes, including career, which lets you make cars and characters. Drome Racers also has power-ups that allows your car, when racing, to destroy your enemies' cars and move toward first place.

The graphics don't test the power of the PlayStation 2 like other racing games such as Gran Turismo 3 do. My nephew can draw better graphics than this, and he's 3 years old.

Backyard Football

System: GameCube

Company: Infogrames Price: $29.99

Rating: E

Grade: B

Backyard Football is a pretty good game. It has every football player from all 32 NFL teams, but as children. Kid-size Jerry Rice, Michael Vick, Jeff Garcia, Rich Gannon and Brett Favre are all there. There are also girls in the game, so nobody is left out.

The different levels are really cool. You can play in the snow, the desert and the back yard. There are also special features to help you score a touchdown, such as sonic boom, springs and invisibility.

When you pick your teams, you can choose a preselected team or create one with your own kids. Even kids in wheelchairs get in on the action and are usually very fast. The graphics are good, but the load time and game play can be slow.
