Citrus junior Jamaal Galloway recently was named to the Class 3A all-state team by the Florida Sports Writers.

Galloway, a 5-foot-11 guard, was the Times All-Citrus/Hernando Player of the Year. He averaged 22 points and four assists while leading the Hurricanes to Gulf Coast Athletic Conference and district titles.

Citrus coach Jimmy Thomas said Galloway is a special player.

"I thought that he was deserving last year, and he didn't get anything," Thomas said. "For Citrus High School and for Jamaal and the team, I think it's a great honor."

Senior Joel Miller was an honorable-mention selection, which Thomas said added to the significance of the announcement.

Miller, a 6-2 forward, was the Hurricanes' second-leading scorer and averaged five rebounds. He shot well from the outside, battled inside against taller opponents, and played excellent defense.

"We're very happy and pleased with it," Thomas said. "They are happy for their teammates that were also a big part of it."

Citrus went 10-0 in the conference, and Galloway was the GCAC Player of the Year. The 'Canes finished 26-2 and made it to the regional semifinals.
