Curt Cornell of Brooksville shot a 148 this past weekend to win the championship flight of the 32nd Tangerine Invitational at Brooksville Golf & Country Club.
Approximately 67 men participated in the 36-hole annual centerpiece of the club tournament schedule, well less than 80-100 the event drew a few years ago.
W.K. Himelsbaugh of Leesburg was second in the championship flight with a 149.
Tom Hendrick (Inverness) fired a 156 to capture the championship B flight. He was followed by Tampa's Steve Allinder (159).
Harry Kearn (Boca Raton) won the third flight with a 150, ahead of Inverness's Bill Hooker and Brooksville's Dan Merritt Jr. (163)
Tampa's Rick Schonder claimed the fourth flight with a 163, beating Brooksville's Mike Reagan (166). Jack Hullett of Ocala won the low-net flight with a 141. Tampa's Tommy Kirby was second with 143.
HEATHER LADIES: Deirdre Howard shot a gross 79 this past weekend but needed a sudden-death playoff hole to defeat Dorothy Kaminski for the league championship.
Elsie King carded a 62 to win the low-net title.
Martha Parsons won the low-gross second flight with a 91, and Elaine McKay took second low-net with a 64. The third flight low gross-winner was Ann Alderman (95), and Marion Hutchinson took third low-net with a 55.
Kathy MacArthur won fourth flight low gross (107), and Dorothy Brooks 62) took fourth low net. Kay Bureau was dubbed "most improved player overall," and Deirdre Howard had the lowest gross score of the season with 28.
SEVEN HILLS: Janice Sandlin and Janet Gilbert each shot a 72 on April 2 to win the A Flight in the Seven Hills Ladies League Four Clubs Only (net score) game.
Bev Johnson (71) took the B flight, and Jane Szeltner (66) was best in C.
Sandlin fired a low-gross 76 to win the Seven Hills league championship in the President's Cup Tournament on March 19 and 26. Flight winners were: A low net (Bev Johnson, 62); 2nd low net (Joan Starr, 65); B low gross (Bobby O'Connell, 91); first low net (Gerry Lounsbury, 65); second low net (Phyllis Simpson, 67); C low gross (Sharon Norris, 96); first low net (Cheryl Roberts, 60); second low net (Connie Calnan, 64).
