ST. PETERSBURG -- Kathy Foley, a veteran actor in American Stage Company's Shakespeare in the Park productions, has died at 57.

A dancer and costume designer who appeared in numerous other theatrical events, she died Tuesday (April 8, 2003) at home under hospice care. She had breast cancer.

One of her last performances came in May 1999 in Minding the Body, Monica Bishop Steele's adaptation of essays on the subject of women coming to terms with the way they look.

"Kathy Foley offers perfect comic timing and wit in her performance of Stiff Upper Lip, a women's acceptance of aging." Pamela Davis wrote in her review for the St. Petersburg Times.

Her credits include appearances in Shakespeare in the Park productions of The Merry Wives of Windsor, The Comedy of Errors, A Midsummer Night's Dream and The Tempest.

In 1987, her dancing in Broadway, the Roaring '20s musical, drew raves.

"The chorus line comes in several shapes (all winsome) and many sizes," Jacquin Sanders wrote in his review. "They squeak their songs delightfully, and I could watch them dance all night. Their names are Joanne L. Johnson, Kathy Foley, Kathy Gustafson-Hilton, Shannon Brannon and Jennifer Roth."

Born Kathleen Percival in Morristown, N.J., she came here in 1953. She graduated from Clearwater High School and attended St. Petersburg Junior College. She was a member of Actors Equity Association.

Survivors include two daughters, Shannon Katherine Foley, St. Petersburg, and Corey Lucille Foley, Minneapolis.

A memorial service will be at 7 p.m. Monday at Demens Landing in downtown St. Petersburg.

Anderson-McQueen Funeral Homes and Cremation Tribute Center-Ninth Street Chapel, is in charge.
