LECANTO -- A Beverly Hills man has been accused of hiding a plastic bag containing tobacco underneath each insole of his Nike tennis shoes and then smuggling the tobacco into the Citrus County jail. About 2 a.m. Thursday, Casey R. Carter, 22, of 32 N Tyler St. was taken to the Citrus County jail after being charged with violating probation stemming from a charge of possession of drug paraphernalia, according to a jail official and an arrest report. The bags of tobacco were found while Carter was being searched. Carter was charged with introducing or possessing contraband at the county jail. He was being held there late Thursday in lieu of $2,000 bail.
The wife of the Floral City man who died after a car crash on U.S. 41 near Julia Street was listed in good condition Thursday at Tampa General Hospital, according to a hospital spokeswoman. Beverly Foster, 71, of 9053 Tara Point was riding with her 74-year-old husband, Warren, at 5:10 p.m. Monday. Warren Foster had just picked up a sandwich at RJ's Pizza & Subs. The Fosters were coming out of RJ's parking lot while another woman, Edith L. Baggett, 52, of 6379 Tompaul Ter., Floral City, drove her pickup truck north on U.S. 41. The truck hit the driver's door of the Fosters' Saturn.
