Attention, budding playwrights, there's still time to write that prize-winning play. The Young Dramatists Project competition, sponsored by the Gorilla Theatre, is open to middle and high school students in Hillsborough County. Winning scripts will premiere as the last offering of the 2002-2003 Gorrilla Theatre season. Winners receive mentoring, a royalty of $250 for each produced play, a professional production (five-show run) and paid membership into the Dramatists Guild. Plays are assigned professional directors, actors, designers and dramaturges to prepare for the debut production about eight weeks later. To enter, authors must be ages 11 to 18; submit short scripts (one-act plays about 10 to 20 pages long) typed and double-spaced; and include your name, your parent or guardian name, address, phone number and e-mail address. Entries, which must arrive by April 30, should be sent to the Gorilla Theater 4419 N Manhattan Ave., Tampa, FL 33614. Winners will be chosen by May 3.
