NBA

Another loss for Wilkens

TORONTO -- The Heat ended its season with a 103-99 victory over the Raptors Tuesday night in what probably was the final home game for Toronto coach Lenny Wilkens.

Afterward, Toronto general manager Glen Grunwald grabbed a microphone and told the crowd, "We will not stand for this any longer."

Wilkens, a Hall of Famer who holds the NBA coaching record for both wins and losses, is expected to be fired. The Raptors play their final game tonight in Cleveland.

Morris Peterson had a career-high 33 for the lottery-bound Raptors. The injury-riddled team played just seven players against Miami, which ended at 25-57.

BULLS 115, SIXERS 106: Eddy Curry made his first eight shots on his way to a career-high 31 points, and Jamal Crawford matched his career best with 33 as host Chicago kept Philadelphia from clinching home-court advantage in the first round of playoffs. The 76ers dropped into a tie with Indiana for third place in the East, with a tiebreaker edge to Indiana. Both teams end their regular seasons tonight, and a loss could drop the 76ers as low as fifth. The 76ers' Allen Iverson scored 42, matching his season high.

PACERS 109, KNICKS 93: Tim Hardaway made all four of his shots while playing the final 16 minutes of the first half, helping Indiana clinch homecourt advantage for the first round. The Pacers outscored New York 48-36 when Hardaway, 36, was on the floor. He sat out the second half.

ROCKETS 97, GRIZZLIES 86: Steve Francis scored 19 as Houston beat the Grizzlies in its final game at Compaq Center before moving to a $202-million downtown arena next season. The Rockets compiled a 747-383 record in 28 seasons at Compaq Center for a .661 percentage. It won NBA championships in 1994 and 1995, but did not make the playoffs this season.

BLAZERS 120, SUNS 102: After losing its first three games against Phoenix this season, host Portland finally won and helped itself in the heated scramble with the Timberwolves and Lakers for the fourth, fifth and sixth playoff seeds in the West. The Blazers were led by Zach Randolph, who scored 27 points starting for injured center Dale Davis..

KNICKS: Coach Don Chaney has agreed to a two-year contract extension that will keep him in New York through the 2005-06 season. The New York Daily News said the extension could be worth between $4-million and $4.5-million.

Chaney received a one-year extension earlier this season. The new two-year extension is his reward for keeping the Knicks in playoff contention through March despite a season-ending knee injury to Antonio McDyess in the preseason. Chaney is 57-87 since taking over the Knicks in 2001-02.

JORDAN FINALE: In at least one sense, tonight's last game for Michael Jordan will have the feel of the NBA Finals. That would be in the number of reporters covering the event. As of Tuesday afternoon, the host 76ers had issued nearly 200 press credentials for the contest with the Wizards.

SUSPENSIONS: Warriors forward Troy Murphy and Clippers center Sean Rooks were suspended one game each for fighting during Monday night's game. They will miss the final game of the season. ... SuperSonics forward Rashard Lewis was suspended for the final game for his behavior after getting ejected Monday night in Dallas. He threw his mouthpiece in the general direction of a referee.
