Five Boys to Watch

1. Ken Magee, Seminole: The junior had the spotlight in the distance events at the Pinellas County Athletic Conference meet, winning the 1,600 meters by three seconds and the 3,200 by seven.

2. Blake Halverson, Keswick Christian: A four-year football starter at defensive end who became the school's first full-scholarship player when he signed with Youngstown State, Halverson is being recognized now for his exploits on the track. Last week, he won the shot put and the discus at the Bay Conference meet.

3. Mike Tylman, Shorecrest: The junior won the 400 and 800 meters and ran the second leg on the winning 4x400 relay team at the Bay Conference meet. His time of 52.26 in the 400 was one-hundredth of a second off the school record. He also came close to setting a school record in the 800 at the Keswick Invitational two weeks ago.

4. Brandon Lawson, Pinellas Park: By finishing first in the 110 hurdles, second in the triple jump and third in the 300 hurdles, Lawson helped the Patriots to a third-place finish at the PCAC meet.

5. Erik Anderson, Northside Christian: He soared above his pole vault competitors at the Bay Conference meet, clearing 12 feet to win the event.

Five Girls to Watch

1. Jenna Kesty, Shorecrest: With help from Kesty, the Chargers won the Bay Conference title convincingly last week. The junior won the 100 hurdles, 300 hurdles, pole vault and was third in the long jump.

2. Kerrie Savery, Palm Harbor University: She was among the multitude of individual standouts that led the Hurricanes to their first PCAC title. A junior, Savery won the 800 meters, ran a leg on the second-place 4x800 relay team and was third in the 1,600.

3. Dominique Warren, Pinellas Park: The county leader in the shot put, Warren won a conference title in the event with a throw of 35 feet, 7 inches. She also was second in the discus.

4. Breana Marshall, Clearwater: RoShawn Marshall's younger sister has been the best in the county in the 100 hurdles the past two weeks. The senior set a school record with a time of 15.3 seconds at the West Coast Invitational two weeks ago and won a conference title last week.

5. Brittany Whitelock, Shorecrest: The senior won the 3,200 meters at the Bay Conference meet, beating out two of her teammates for the title. Whitelock also won the 3,200 at the Keswick Christian Invitational two weeks ago.
