INVERNESS -- Starting Monday, vehicle traffic will move a little differently in downtown Inverness.
Old Main Street will become one way eastbound to Courthouse Square and continue east to Apopka Avenue.
Traffic heading south on North Apopka Avenue will not be able to turn right onto Courthouse Square, but instead will continue south to Main Street (State Road 44/U.S. 41).
On May 1, traffic from Main Street turning onto Pine Avenue will be one way northbound to Old Main Street. Southbound traffic on Pine Avenue must turn left, or east, onto Old Main Street or turn right, or west, into the parking lot.
The angle parking on the north side of Old Main Street and Courthouse Square will be reversed to go with one-way eastbound traffic.
Construction downtown is progressing nicely, city officials said.
By May 2, underground piping and systems are expected to be completed. Through May, curbs for islands at street corners, asphalt street paving and crosswalks will be installed. Sections of some streets will be closed. By the end of June, street lights, benches, signs, bike racks and landscaping will be included.
