ST. PETERSBURG -- A 73-year-old man on a bicycle died after he was hit by a car Tuesday afternoon on Snell Isle, police said.

Harold E. Massey, who lived at 1301 1/2 Snell Isle Blvd., was hit about 3 p.m. about a half-mile from his home. Police said Massey, who was riding on Rafael Boulevard and crossing Snell Isle Boulevard, failed to yield the right of way at a stop sign and rode his bicycle into the path of a Chrysler PT Cruiser.

Massey was pronounced dead at Bayfront Medical Center shortly afterward. The PT Cruiser's driver, 60-year-old Emily B. Williams of St. Petersburg, was unhurt and was not charged in the accident.
