Lightning/Devils matchup

THE BREAKDOWN: From the two regular-season games in Tampa, the inclination is to believe the series will be held at breakneck speed with wide-open skating and multiple scoring chances. On the contrary, expect close checking with emphasis on battles for the puck along the boards, stingy defense and outstanding goaltending.
The Devils are defensive specialists. They tied the Flyers for the fewest goals allowed during the regular season with 166 (the Lightning allowed 210), and Martin Brodeur is a likely Vezina Trophy winner. No surprise the team was 33-0-5-1 when leading after two periods.
The Lightning had four 70-point scorers during the regular season. But Tampa Bay outscored New Jersey only 219-216, and the Devils were not as top-heavy on offense. Patrik Elias led with 57 points, but New Jersey had four 50-point players and four with at least 40 points. Tampa Bay had no 60-point scorers, one with 53 and one with 40. Watch what happens on the road.
Tampa Bay was 14-16-9-2 away from home in the regular season. The Devils were 21-9-7-4 using a trapping, defensive game, which works just fine in the playoffs. On the other hand, the Lightning is relentless. And when it gets good goaltending, like it is now, it is extremely difficult to beat.
CRISTODERO PREDICTION: Lightning in 7.
