TRINITY - A Tarpon Springs man died Wednesday afternoon when the 1990 Honda he was driving swerved into the path of a dump truck on State Road 54 in southern Pasco County.

Andrew Joseph Radetski, 30, of 214 N Disston Ave. was going east when he crossed the center line of the road and slammed head-on into the truck, according to the Florida Highway Patrol. Radetski died at the scene.

The accident occurred about 4 p.m. in a curvy stretch of SR 54 near the West Pasco Industrial Park and Tampa Bay Executive Airport.

Piet Van Bemden, who owns the dump truck, said truck driver James Conti was driving back to New Port Richey on Wednesday afternoon from a construction site in Zephyrhills. The force of the collision bent the frame of the 12-ton truck, which was empty, Van Bemden said, but Conti was not injured.

Troopers said Conti, 34, of New Port Richey was not at fault in the accident.

Radetski was born in Dunedin and moved to Tarpon Springs in 1980 from Pinellas Park. He worked as a mechanic for Sun State Fork Lift in Holiday.
