Laliberte in All-Star Classic

NEW PORT RICHEY - Ridgewood senior Matt Laliberte, in good position to pull off a rare pitcher triple crown by leading Pasco County in wins, ERA and strikeouts, has been selected to play in the Florida Athletic Coaches Association Baseball All-Star Classic next month.

"We've been very fortunate to get three players in there in the last three years," said Rams coach Larry Beets, who had pitcher Ronny Lowe in last year's game and slugger Derek Kuryliw in 2001.

Laliberte, a right-hander, is the only county player on the FACA's West team, which will gather in Sebring on May 29-31. Lowe and Pasco shortstop Lee Cruz were selected last year.

In leading Ridgewood to a Sunshine Athletic Conference championship and the top seed in the Class 4A, District 8 tournament, Laliberte is 9-1 with six complete games and has a 0.99 ERA and 96 strikeouts in 702/3 innings.
