    Bush appoints new appeals court judge

    Gov. Jeb Bush has appointed lawyer Douglas A. Wallace to the Second District Court of Appeal in Lakeland, which serves 14 counties, including the entire Tampa Bay area.

    Wallace will fill a vacancy created by the death of Judge Jerry P. Parker.

    Wallace, 55, of Bradenton, has been in private practice since 1974, focusing in civil litigation, probate, real estate and bankruptcy.

    Wallace received his undergraduate degree from Princeton University in 1969 and his law degree from Yale Law School in 1978.

    Ocala lawyer to take over circuit court seat

    Gov. Jeb Bush has appointed lawyer Willard Ira Pope to be a judge in the Fifth Judicial Circuit, which consists of Citrus, Hernando, Lake, Marion and Sumter counties.

    Pope will fill a newly created judicial position.

    Pope, 50, of Ocala, has most recently been the supervising attorney in the State Attorney's Office in Lake County.

    Previously, he was a partner in the private law firm of Scott, Gleason & Pope, P.A.

    Pope received his undergraduate degree from the University of Central Florida in 1979, his master's degree from Rollins College in 1983 and his law degree from Florida State College of Law in 1985.
