Richard Jeni
Richard Jeni and Ellen Cleghorne, appearing in Tampa comedy clubs this weekend, are recognizable faces from TV and, to a lesser degree, the big screen.
In the early '90s, Cleghorne was part of the cast of Saturday Night Live, impersonating celebrities such as Whoopi Goldberg and Natalie Cole and creating characters including Queen Shaniqua and Zoraida.
Since leaving SNL, she starred in a short-lived sitcom, Cleghorne, and had parts in a number of movies, including Little Nicky (2000), Armageddon (1998) and Mr. Wrong (1996).
Cleghorne brings her standup act to Side Splitters Comedy Club, 12938 N Dale Mabry Highway, at 8:30 tonight, 8 and 10:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 8:30 p.m. Sunday. Tickets are $16-$18. (813) 960-1197. Richard Jeni has starred in several HBO comedy specials, commercials (Office Max, Certs), a bad sitcom (UPN's Platypus Man) and several movies, including The Mask with Jim Carrey. He has been a regular on The Tonight Show with both Johnny Carson and Jay Leno. And, after two decades in the comedy biz, he's one of the big names on the circuit.
Jeni appears at 8 tonight, 8 and 10:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 7 p.m. Sunday at the Tampa Improv, 1600 E Eighth Ave., in Centro Ybor. Tickets are $18-$22. (813) 864-4000.
