RUSKIN - Hillsborough County will hold a public meeting to discuss the Ruskin Community Plan at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday in the Ruskin Elementary School cafeteria at 101 College Ave. Its purpose is to form a committee to develop the plan.
The creation of community plans for Ruskin, Riverview, Apollo Beach, Gibsonton, Wimauma and Sun City Center follows the development of the SouthShore Areawide Systems Plan, which outlines a vision for the future of transportation, environmental and cultural/historical issues in the South Shore area. The areawide plan is slated for a final public hearing before the Hillsborough County Commission at 6 p.m. June 11 on the second floor of the County Center at 601 E Kennedy Blvd. in Tampa.
The community plans will more precisely address everything from recreational facilities to design standards for commercial buildings and streets.
Volunteers are needed to serve on the Ruskin Community Plan committee. John Healey, project manager with the county department of Planning and Growth Management says anyone who can give a few hours a month for about a year is welcome to join the committee.
For more information, call Healey at 276-8393.

RIVERVIEW - For the second straight year, the Greater Riverview Chamber of Commerce has named Bud Hunt its honorary mayor.
Hunt, the owner of three Beef O'Brady's locations, won the race by raising $6,000, which will be be split evenly between the Chamber of Commerce and the charity of his choice, Shriners Hospital.
The two other candidates were Billy Lindsey, a chef at Riverview Sandwich Shop and an Elvis impersonator, and Diane Birkhead, a secretary at Ippolito Elementary School. In all, the candidates raised a record $10,000 - half for charity, and half for the chamber.
"Very, very, very good race this year," said Debra Smith, the chamber's executive director.
