Mitchell's first playoff run ended with its longest postseason game. The third-year Mustangs (19-11) lasted 14 innings Thursday but lost the Class 4A, Region 2 semifinal 2-1 to Palatka.
Palatka pitcher Katie Brosky, who trailed Tallahassee Leon's Erin Horn on the state's career strikeout list, broke the record. Brosky entered the game with 444 strikeouts, one behind Horn's mark set last season.
