Tampa Bay Parade of Homes winners named

By Times Staff Writer
Published May 10, 2003

Winners of the spring Parade of Homes sponsored by the Tampa Bay Builders Association were announced Thursday night at a banquet at the Grand Hyatt Tampa Bay.

A total of 62 builders entered 140 models worth nearly $52-million in the parade, the first sponsored by the organization created from the merger of builder associations in Pinellas and Hillsborough counties.

During the parade, builders reported 325 sales, each averaging about $310,000 including homesite, for total sales volume of more than $100-million.

Winners were selected by judging teams of independent home-building professionals from outside the Tampa Bay area.

Five of the winning models are in Pinellas, 12 in Pasco and 14 in Hillsborough. That is symptomatic of the building industry in the three counties: As Pinellas has been built out, it has become an infill and remodeling market. The other two counties still have large tracts of land, often former ranches and agricultural land, where developers can create large new-home subdivisions.

Single-family grand and merit award winners, by price category, are:
