Jenna Morasca newest 'Survivor'By SHARON FINK, Times Staff Writer© St. Petersburg Times published May 12, 2003 In the biggest landslide in Survivor history, Jenna Morasca, a college student and part-time swimsuit model from Pittsburgh, won the show's Amazon edition Sunday night, getting six votes from the seven-member jury to runner-up Matthew Von Ertfelda's one. Morasca, who turned 22 in February, is the youngest winner in the show's six editions. She wins $1-million and a new Saturn car. Morasca made the final two by winning the last two immunity challenges, and after she won the last one, she voted out conniving Rob Cesternino to take Von Ertfelda, a restaurant designer from Washington, D.C., to the final. The first member of the final four to go in Sunday's two-hour series finale was Butch Lockley, 50, a middle school principal from Olney, Ill. He was the only jury member who voted for Von Ertfelda. Cesternino, a 24-year-old computer projects coordinator from Wantagh, N.Y., was called by host Jeff Probst during the live reunion show that followed the finale "the smartest player never to win." He voted for Morasca after telling both finalists at the final tribal council that their answers to his question would determine his vote. He asked each why the other person didn't deserve to win. Von Ertfelda said that Morasca didn't work for the tribe's good and wanted to go home at various times. Morasca said Von Ertfelda didn't play the game from the beginning and didn't need the $1-million. The most shocking of Morasca's votes was from Christy Smith, who swore after her ouster that she would make sure that neither Morasca nor Heidi Strobel, whom she called her "evil stepsisters," would win. During the reunion show, Smith said she voted for Morasca in the end because she "outwit, outlasted and outplayed" her. © 2006 • All Rights Reserved • St. Petersburg Times
