Kirkwood follows sis to Virginia

By Times Staff Writer
Published May 13, 2003

Plant volleyball player Sarah Kirkwood, who helped lead the Panthers to two state titles, orally committed to University of Virginia.

The junior outside hitter will join her sister, Emily, a setter who committed in September as a senior. The two were selected Times All-County and All-Suncoast co-players of the year after the fall season.

Sarah, who attempted to capture state volleyball and swimming championships in 2001 (she finished runner-up in the 50-yard freestyle), is the third of three sisters to pursue college athletics.

Her oldest sister, Allison, attended Stanford on a swimming scholarship in 2000.
