TAMPA - Mayor Pam Iorio has reappointed two members of the Tampa Housing Authority who have repeatedly missed board meetings.

Iorio on Wednesday reappointed lawyer Robert Shimberg and Sybil Andrews Wells, publisher of the Florida Sentinel-Bulletin, to terms on the authority.

Shimberg, who is chairman of the board, missed seven of 13 meetings last year, and Wells missed eight meetings, according to a Tampa Tribune report.

Iorio said she had a "lengthy discussion" with Wells about the missed meetings, and accepted her explanation that she missed because of health problems. She called Shimberg a "committed" member of the board.

Iorio also named three others to fill vacancies on the board. They are Sophia Sorolis, a public housing official in St. Petersburg; Gerald White, a Democratic Party activist; and Toni Riordan, who has worked on public housing issues for state government.

Iorio also named Al Barnes, a retired coach who taught her at Riverhills Elementary School, to serve on the Tampa Sports Authority, which runs Raymond James Stadium.
