Man arrested in sex assault on teen

TAMPA - A 37-year-old father was arrested Monday, a week after he gave several teenage girls alcohol at his house and sexually assaulted one of them after she went to sleep, police reports stated.

The girls were at the 6706 S Cortez St. home of Darin Ty Horn on May 10, police said. Their ages and names were not released, due to the nature of the alleged crime.

Officers on Monday also said Horn was a volunteer assistant coach for the girls' softball team at Robinson High School.

Robinson coach Ed Gallio was quick to clarify that.

"He was a parent helper," said Gallio, who said Horn had a daughter on the team. "I have four other coaches. He was just somebody who came out and helped once in awhile."

Gallio said Horn helped him work on the field, paint and even occasionally filled in when other coaches couldn't attend.

He said Monday's arrest caught him off guard.

"In no way, shape or form did I ever get any indication of anything (like this)," said Gallio, a first-year coach. "He was a decent guy. I was kind of shocked. I always gave the guy the benefit of the doubt."

Gallio said the girl Horn is accused of assaulting was not on the team. But he still worried about the reputation of the program.

"I don't know what the ramifications are going to be," he said. "It just gives our program a black eye."

State records show that Horn has no prior criminal record in Florida.

He faces charges of lewd and lascivious act on a child, contributing to the delinquency of a child and serving an alcoholic beverage to a child.

He remained in Hillsborough County jail Monday evening in lieu of $10,000 bail.
