Top five movies and upcoming releases

Top five movies

1. Bruce Almighty - Verily I say unto thee: Jim Carrey is hilarious and touching as a self-centered TV reporter taking over for a vacationing God (Morgan Freeman). Let there always be comedy in Carrey's film choices, forever and ever, amen.

2. The Matrix Reloaded - Part 2 of the Matrix chronicles adds more exciting special effects and deeper philosophical meaning to the 1999 original. Keanu Reeves and Laurence Fishburne continue their war against an insidious, computer-generated virtual reality.

3. Down with Love - A feminist author (Renee Zellweger) and a playboy reporter (Ewan McGregor) clash in this tribute to 1960s battle-of-the-sexes comedies. It's cinematic cotton candy, but satisfying enough.

4. X-Men 2: X-Men United - The popular Marvel Comics superheroes return with a new villain, more mutants and an admirable sense of purpose beyond stunts and special effects. Now showing in digital projection at Parkside 16 in Pinellas Park.

5. The Dancer Upstairs - John Malkovich's moody directorial debut gets high marks from Times correspondent Philip Booth. Javier Bardem stars as a Peruvian cop tracking a terrorist.
