Pedregon captures fifth Funny Car win of season

TOPEKA, Kan. - Tony Pedregon earned his fifth Funny Car victory of the season and third straight at Heartland Park Topeka at the O'Reilly Summer Nationals on Sunday.

Pedregon powered his Ford Mustang to a second run of 4.848 seconds at 320.66 mph to beat rival Whit Bazemore, whose Dodge Stratus lost traction past midtrack and posted a 5.126 at 252.38.

With his 24th career victory, Pedregon boosted his lead in the standings to 94 points over Bazemore.

Larry Dixon (Top Fuel) and Greg Anderson (Pro Stock) also won in their respective categories at the $1.9-million event, the ninth of 23 this season.
