The computer is playing a larger role in home entertainment, according to a recent Harris Interactive survey of 2,070 computer users ages 13 and older. The findings:
- 43 percent said their computer was more important than their TV; CD player (63 percent); stereo (61 percent); and DVD player (59 percent).
- 63 percent use a computer in the family room, den, kitchen or other group area of the home.
- 48 percent tune into the TV most or every time they use their computer.
- 44 percent consider themselves "very" or "extremely" knowledgeable about burning CDs.
- 48 percent say the next computer they buy must have a DVD burner.
- 57 percent say being able to edit digital photos is important.- 60 percent would like to use a remote control to access entertainment content on their computer rather than a keyboard or mouse.
- 69 percent say they would like to be able to access their digital music from anywhere in the house.
- 69 percent of those surveyed ages 13 to 17 download music from the Internet at least once a week.
