TV glamorizes speeding

Published May 30, 2003

I'll preface this letter with the following disclaimer. Age alone does not make a bad driver. The nut behind the wheel can be 19 or 90 or any of the years in between.

That said, I thought the Wharton High School article by John Balz in the May 25th North of Tampa issue seemed to focus too much emphasis on driving fast. I then turned to the accident report in the same issue and found 46 accident reports, many listed as caused by careless driving. I suspect most of those could also have included the phrase, "driving too fast for conditions." The TV ads by auto manufacturers contribute greatly to the problem by the way they glamorize speeding.

3 cheers for 3 Palms of Carrollwood

Recently, 3 Palms of Carrollwood held a meeting on crime prevention for its tenants. A Hillsborough County deputy, Robert J. Lihengood, spoke steadily for almost an hour. He was very informative, and his ideas and suggestions were really great.

The deputy ended his talk by saying that the plan against crime prevention would not work unless all of us reached out to each other and got to know each other. It was a beautiful statement. If the surrounding communities would do the same, I'm sure we would have less crime in this area.

So I salute 3 Palms for caring for its tenants and for assigning Ms. Lori Ohlensehlan as the property manager and Ms. Pally Seehever as the leasing director. Both did a superb job in uniting us. The great turnout proves safety is a great concern.

3 Palms of Carrollwood has proven to be a choice community and I stress that it is a very pleasant place to live.
