PORT RICHEY - Sheriff's deputies were investigating the near drowning of a 2-year-old girl on Thursday night.

Sgt. Bill Moltzan said Pasco sheriff's deputies arrived at 8545 Cessna Drive about 6 p.m. after hearing that a young child had possibly drowned. Moltzan said the girl appeared to be doing fine and had been taken to see doctors as a precaution.

Initial reports suggested that the girl's father had rescued her from the pool behind their home and possibly performed CPR, but Moltzan said on Thursday evening that his deputies still were piecing together what had happened.

He said he did not yet have the names of the girl and her father.
