Mideast military news

Air Force Senior Airman Michael Ross Norwood, nephew of Donna Thompson of St. Petersburg, was deployed to the Middle East in January with the 49th Fighter Wing, 8th Fighter Squadron. He is a mechanic for the F-117 stealth fighter.

Navy Petty Officer 1st Class John K. Carroll, son of Dianne and Kenton Carroll of St. Petersburg, was deployed to the Middle East in December aboard the USS Harry S. Truman. He is an electrical technician in the reactor department. The ship returned to its home port in Norfolk, Va., on May 23. Carroll is a 1992 graduate of Northside Christian School.

Army Chaplain Capt. Charles E. Scott, son of Nancy K. and William L. Scott of St. Petersburg, was deployed to the Middle East in May with the 1st Battalion, 4th Air Defense Artillery, 1st Armored Division. He recently graduated from the Army Chaplain School in Jackson, S.C., and is a 1982 graduate of St. Petersburg High School.

Marine Lance Cpl. Jon Garrett Jay, grandson of Ruth A. Williams of St. Petersburg, was deployed to Iraq in April with Company L, 3rd Battalion, 23rd Marines. He is assigned to security.

Coast Guard Petty Officer 3rd Class Patrick Jackson, son of Vivia and Edward Jackson of St. Petersburg, was deployed to the Middle East in February aboard the USCGC Dallas. He is a machinery technician. He is a 2000 graduate of Pinellas Park High School.
