The Edmonton Oilers will host the Montreal Canadiens at 58,000-seat Commonwealth Stadium on Nov. 22 in the first outdoor regular-season game in NHL history. The game will be part of the Oilers' yearlong celebration of 25 years in the league. It will be played on a rink laid out atop the artificial turf in the home stadium of the Edmonton Eskimos of the Canadian Football League. The game will be played on the 86th anniversary of the NHL, which was founded in Montreal in 1917. An old-timers game featuring former Oilers against former Canadiens will be played that afternoon and feature Edmonton great Wayne Gretzky and Montreal great Guy Lafleur.
