Village braces for invading pirate boats

MADEIRA BEACH - Pirate boats are scheduled to invade John's Pass Village at noon Saturday, kicking off a weekend of family activities.

Costumed kids can hunt for hidden treasure from noon to 3 p.m. Saturday and continue the hunt on Sunday with prizes awarded and a costume contest on Saturday. A Pirates Ball ($5) with live entertainment and adult costume contest is scheduled at 7 p.m.

The World's Largest, Smallest Toy Boat Race will start at 2 p.m. Sunday with a winner-takes-all $1,000 cash prize.

A Hurricane Awareness Expo will be at 3 p.m. at VFW Post 4256 in the center of the John's Pass Village.
