BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - A former chancellor of Florida's university system appears to be Indiana University trustees' choice to be IU's next president, media reports said Wednesday.
Bloomington's Herald-Times newspaper said trustees have settled on Adam W. Herbert, executive director of the Florida Center for Public Policy and Leadership Development at the University of North Florida.
Announcement of the new president is expected today, concluding a closed search that screened 200 candidates and led to interviews of a dozen.
No IU official would confirm Herbert's selection Wednesday. Herbert did not return a call.
Herbert, 59, was president of the University of North Florida in Jacksonville from 1989 to 1998, then served three years as chancellor of Florida's state university system when it the Board of Regents ran it.
Herbert resigned that post and returned to UNF in 2001, after the Florida Legislature restructured the state's education governance system.
President Myles Brand left IU Jan. 1 to head the National Collegiate Athletic Association.
