Where meals meet wheels

World champion skaters will perform as the audience munches spaghetti and meatballs. And did we mention Spinno, the skating clown?

Roller skating enthusiasts who also happen to love homemade Italian meatballs and spaghetti can feast on both Sunday when the SpinNations Skating Center hosts the third annual Pasta Skate.

"We'll have the world-champion skaters and a great spaghetti and meatball dinner, salad, coffee and dessert, all for $7," said Angela Serini, publicist and chief cook for the event.

Two-time world dance champions Adam White and Melissa Quinn will perform the pasodoble and Westminster Waltz, two of the required dances they did in competition, according to the program notes.

In addition, the team will skate a special "free-style" dance number.

White and Quinn have won five U.S. gold medals and are expected to win nationals in July, Serini said. The pair will compete in the world championships in Buenos Aires in November. They trained under SpinNations' coach and three-time world champion Dan Littel.

Members of the Florida Skating Academy will perform the routines they will do at a regional competition in Georgia. The skaters' ages range from 9 to 70.

A featured skater will be Taylor Allen, 10, of Odessa, who has competed at the national level three times.

"Spinno the Clown" will debut at the event, doing tricks and balloon sculptures. There will also be drawings for 40 door prizes, including a two-day, one-night stay at the waterfront Sailport Resort off the Courtney Campbell Parkway in Tampa.

Dinner show guests are invited to bring their skates and join the public skating segment.

Food service is from 1:15 to 5:15 p.m., but is suspended during performances.
