ST. PETERSBURG - Police are investigating a series of acts of criminal mischief in west St. Petersburg that occurred on May 23.

Car tires were slashed and punctured between Fifth and 20th avenues N and from 40th to 49th streets. Police suspect youths who live in the neighborhood may be the culprits, said Justin Kocak, an investigator in the Youth Resource Division of the St. Petersburg Police Department. He is in charge of the case.

The earliest call to police came in at 7:53 a.m. on May 24. So far, 28 reports of criminal mischief have been connected to the May 23 incident with more being sorted out in the system. Tires on 35 cars were slashed.

Kocak said investigators had some leads but no arrests have been made. He said vandalism of this scale is fairly rare.

If you have any information on this crime, call Kocak at 551-3156.
