Got a minute with Travis Harper

By MARC TOPKIN
Published June 8, 2003

Q: You're very quiet; are you always a man of such few words?

A: Typically, yes.

Q: Can you expound on that?

A: Not really.

Q: Are there really lots of hills in your home state of West Virginia?

A: We've got hills in West Virginia and we've got mountains in West Virginia. If you don't live in the mountains, you live in the hills. There's very little flat ground in West Virginia.

Q: Did you make a big romantic proposal to your wife, Tiffany?

A: I made the August-in-Durham proposal in 2001. In-season, there's not a lot of room for getaway weekends or romantic ideas. I did the best with what I could. And after a few years of dating, I think I still surprised her. And that's all that counts, right?

Q: What is your favorite item in the bullpen candy bag?

A: Tangerine Altoids, very refreshing.
