Your cubicle gets better reception than mine

Talk about being wired.

Verizon Wireless recently finished rigging 1 City Center, the downtown Tampa office tower with Verizon's name across the top, to improve cell phone reception inside the building.

The job involved putting 59 tiny antennas - each about 4 by 2 inches - in ceiling tiles spread throughout the building's 38 floors. The antennas send out a cell phone frequency from radio equipment in Tampa City Center's basement.

Verizon Wireless has installed three smaller systems locally. The Tampa City Center job is the biggest one so far in Florida, said Sandro Recine, the company's manager for system performance in Tampa.
