BALTIMORE - Sammy Sosa is done talking. All he can do now is wait.
Sosa on Tuesday appealed his eight-game suspension for using a corked bat. After speaking for about an hour with Bob DuPuy, baseball's chief operating officer, Sosa only could hope for the best.
"I'm waiting for the decision they're going to make. Whatever punishment they're going to do, I accept it," he said.
A decision could come as soon as today.
Sosa made a short statement to the media and exited without taking questions. Cubs officials said Sosa would not speak with reporters again during a three-game series with the Orioles that concludes Thursday.
Sosa met with DuPuy at the hotel where the Cubs are staying in Baltimore.
After hearing the appeal, DuPuy paused briefly before getting into a cab.
"We had a very nice talk," he said.
Asked when a decision would be rendered, DuPuy replied, "As soon as I get to it."
Glazer's bid for Dodgers hits snag
Though the sale of the Dodgers to Bucs owner Malcolm Glazer remains possible, negotiations have been slowed, if not significantly threatened, by complex financing regulations in the NFL and Major League Baseball, the Los Angeles Times reported.
Whether Glazer, bidding about $360-million for the team, stadium and property, can overcome NFL rules that prohibit him from leveraging the Bucs and require him to use "independent resources" in the purchase of the Dodgers isn't clear.
The Los Angeles Times reported the NFL and MLB have rejected the submitted parameters of a sale to Glazer and asked the sides to reconstruct it if possible, and other buyers are again showing interest.

RED SOX: Pitcher Pedro Martinez is expected to pitch tonight for the first time in nearly a month and will be replaced on the DL by another starter, Casey Fossum (sore left shoulder). His wife and youngest son remain ill with the same problem, and Clemens' cough has not gone away. ... Reliever Juan Acevedo was released three days after giving up a three-run homer that ruined Clemens' bid at the milestone, but general manager Brian Cashman said it was not specifically because of that game. Also, right-hander Jose Contreras (strained right shoulder) was placed on the 15-day DL retroactive to Saturday. Right-handed pitcher Jason Anderson was recalled from Triple-A Columbus and right-hander Al Reyes' contract was purchased from Columbus.
