Top five movies and upcoming releases

Published June 12, 2003

Top five movies

1. KidFlix Florida International Children's Film Festival - Muvico Centro Ybor 20 in Ybor City is the site for a weekend of offbeat, family friendly films from around the world.

2. Finding Nemo - After toys, bugs and monsters, Pixar Animation Studios goes fishing for laughs and thrills in a terrific undersea adventure for the entire family. Showing in digital projection at Parkside 16 in Pinellas Park.

3. Spellbound - St. Petersburg Times reviewer Colette Bancroft loved this documentary account of the 1999 National Spelling Bee, won by former Tampa resident Nupur Lala.

4. Nowhere in Africa - This year's Academy Award winner for best foreign-language film tells the little-known story of European Jews who escaped the Holocaust by fleeing to Africa. Showing at Tampa Theatre.

5. Bruce Almighty - Verily I say unto thee: Jim Carrey is hilarious and touching as a self-centered TV reporter taking over for vacationing God (Morgan Freeman). Let there always be comedy in Carrey's film choices, forever and ever, amen.
