SPRING HILL - Spring Hill Regional Hospital's emergency room medical director will resign in September to work at another emergency room in New Braunfels, Texas.

Doctor R. Joseph Paquette, 41, has worked at Spring Hill Regional's emergency room since February 2000 as an employee of Emergency Physician Specialists Inc. of Davenport.

Emergency Physician Specialists has not yet appointed a successor, Paquette said.

Over the past six months, Paquette has organized and chaired the Hernando County Drug Abuse Prevention Community Coalition, which eventually will use state funds to establish drug prevention programs for the county.

Paquette has practiced medicine for seven years, six in emergency rooms, he said. Prior to his tenure at Spring Hill Regional, Paquette worked at Halifax Medical Center, a trauma center in Daytona Beach. He also worked a year in private practise in Daytona Beach.

Paquette said he will miss Spring Hill, but he is looking forward to returning to Texas, his home state. Paquette was born in Waco, grew up in Houston and after careers in journalism and psychology, he attended medical school at University of Texas at Houston.
