Scott Simpson, who won the 1987 U.S. Open, has committed to this fall's St. Jude's Charity Benefit at Rainbow Springs Golf and Country Club.

He joins 1987 Masters champion Larry Mize, Andy Bean and Chris Perry.

"A number of contracts are still pending, and we expect more exciting names to be added soon," said Steve Aufderheide, the event's publicity chairman.

The tournament is Oct. 26-27. All proceeds benefit St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.

There are 120 spots ($475 each) available for the scramble, and participants are guaranteed to play at least one hole with a professional. The pros will conduct a clinic before the tourney.

Registration ends Sept. 1. For information, call Bob Bitter, (352) 489-8535; or Ernie Hanewinckle, (352) 465-3566.
