VIENNA, Ohio - Annika Sorenstam didn't need a practice round to recognize a swamped golf course.

Seeking her third win in a row on the LPGA Tour, Sorenstam shot 1-under 71 Friday and was three behind leader Minny Yeo after the opening round of the Giant Eagle Classic.

"It was muddy. I mean, it's soaking wet," Sorenstam said, looking down at the thick, brown mud that coated her shoes.

The start of the play was delayed an hour because of heavy rain that fell overnight. Pat Hurst, who shot 69, said she was forced to chip twice because she couldn't putt through standing water on greens.

Three weeks after playing in the PGA Tour's Colonial, and after wins at the Kellogg-Keebler and Sunday's LPGA Championship, Sorenstam didn't arrive until Thursday night.

SAINT OMER OPEN: Brett Rumford shot 1-under 70 for a one-stroke lead after two rounds of the European PGA Tour event in France. Rumford led after the first round with a course-record 64. Alvaro Salto shot 67 and moved to 7-under 135, one back.

MATCH PLAY: Largo's Jim Smith lost a semifinal to Frank Reynolds on the second extra hole of the North Florida PGA Match Play Championship at Southern Dunes in Haines City. Reynolds beat Tim Doozan in the final.
