DNA tests tie seventh victim to Miami rapist

MIAMI - A serial rapist who has attacked neighborhood children in their homes has been linked to a seventh victim, this one a 77-year-old woman, police said Tuesday.

DNA tests confirmed that the woman was raped by the still unidentified man in her home in March, police said. DNA tests also linked the man to five other rapes in the neighborhood. Police think the man also raped a 79-year-old woman from whom DNA samples were not available.

"We are painstakingly going through the old cases," police Chief John Timoney said.

All the victims live in West Little Havana, including three girls, ages 11, 12 and 13, who were attacked in a span of four weeks.

DNA evidence also connected the man to assaults of a 21-year-old woman and a 55-year-old woman last year, police said.

The rapist has been described as Hispanic. Police have circulated a composite drawing of his face based on victims' accounts, offered a $10,000 reward for any information that would lead to him and swept the neighborhoods looking for a suspect.

Investigators also have requested and obtained saliva samples from more than 120 men in a search, so far unsuccessful, for a DNA match.
